Manor Team

Team Rector: The Reverend Canon Julie Upton

Julie has a varied background. She was born in Bradford and at the age of 19 started training at the Church Army Training College, in London, as it was then. She worked for the Church Army as a Deanery Training Officer for three years before going off to Ripon College Cuddesdon to train to be a Deacon (women were only allowed to be ordained Deacon then). She was ordained Priest in 1994.
She has served as Team Vicar in South London and in West Leeds as well as serving in a Parish in Manningham in Bradford and in a team ministry of thirteen parishes in deepest Suffolk. She has also worked for a number of years in the Voluntary Sector - managing projects based in a community centre, working for Age Concern, and leading the development and national roll-out of a quality standard for organisations involving volunteers.
Throughout her ministry Julie has always been committed to working alongside the community and feel that the church should at all times recognise and fulfil its calling to engage with the community it serves and where ever possible work in partnership with that community.

Associate Priest: The Reverend Karen Colley

Karen, previously licensed as a Lay Reader, was ordained as a priest in June 2014.  After working at Royal Mail for 26 years in a variety of roles including postwoman, researcher and relationship manager, she took voluntary redundancy in 2011 and currently works for the Diocese of Sheffield at Church House.  Karen is a self-supporting minister (SSM) and continues to support the work of the diocese, as well as giving her time to Manor Parish.
Karen is married and has 4 cats.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, sewing, art and crafts and baking, as well as looking for graffiti and discovering hidden beauty in forgotten places with her husband.

Church Related Community Work Minister:  Simon Loveitt

Simon grew up in inner city Aston in Birmingham, (and does still support Aston Villa through thin and thinner!) He initially pursued a career in the catering industry, spending two years at catering college, and working at The Metropole Hotel at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

After a period of voluntary youth and community work he was trained and has worked since 1989 as a Church Related Community Work Minister for the United Reformed Church in inner-city Manchester, Middlesbrough and Bradford.
He is now part of the ecumenical Manor Church and Community Project, which is working in partnership with local people, groups and organisations to tackle the issues which affect the quality of people's lives in the Sheffield 2 postcode.
Simon is married, with two boys, one just finished and one just started university.  In his spare time Simon is a member of a running club and enjoys walking.

Support and Development Worker: Nicola Smith

Nicola came to the Manor Parish as Parish Administrator in January 2009.  She started off working in solicitors’ offices, working her way up from office junior to being a Wills and Probate paralegal.  For seven years she undertook a dual role of paralegal and Diocesan Registry Clerk, until the retirement of the former Diocesan Registrar.  She then managed to escape the legal world when she took on the role of Parish Administrator.

From 1st July 2012, Nicola will be undertaking the new role of Support and Development Worker, encompassing her old role as Administrator along with new aspects such as event organisation and older people's work.  In 2013 she was also the Project Officer of a Heritage Lottery Funded project called Manor Memories.

She loves being a member of the Manor team and says it's easily the most enjoyable job she has ever had.
